Aboard Lil' Diamond II

The Lil' Diamond II, a 60-passenger vessel, docks here at the Herkimer Marina at Gems Along the Mohawk and offers a 1 1/2 hour tour of the Erie Canal, which goes through Lock 18 and returns to the Marina. Each cruise is fully narrated by Captain Jerry Gertz, and gives an historic overview of the Erie Canal as well as information about the operation of the Canal locking system.

CRUISE on Lil' Diamond II and Travel back in time as your Captain narrates the history and legends of the canal. Take an hour or take more, but definitely take time to stop and enjoy. You'll be glad you did!

What you'll see: Picturesque scenery, Lock 18, cruising yachts, and historic sites in and around the canal.

What you'll hear: A fascinating narration by your Coast Guard licensed Captain describing the sights, the history and legends of the waterways.

What you'll experience: Travelling thru a lock and being raised and lowered 20 feet into the lower Mohawk River. During your "Lock Thru" experience, the Captain will explain the inner workings of the lock and how it operates.
